Rockonica!!!

Termites' Cheap Mold were as horrific as I feared... WJ was accosted by their drummer for Traktoring K-Pop instead of Gila... We drank to asphyxiate the memory, then met five friendly drunks who invited us to crash someone's Halloween party with them. Mostly super-boring, but any balcony filled ankle-deep with empty sekt bottles is a balcony that deserves appraisal. Stumbled from there to an all-night döner, and lightly touched down...

More if I awake. Just popped a 400mg Ibuprofen. Yeah, living well to the left of your edge.

Berlin: A Pommeled Restitch...

Guten Abend,

Wouter and I have already written four songs, and are now in official abandon-all-fucking-hope mode as we sojourn to Raum 20 to listlessly mope backstage as Acid Mothers Temple, the tireless hippie-noise hucksters, perform a set of Reeves Gabrels tributes to an oven mitt and seventeen serviettes.

Major drag, really, as there are infinitely cooler events going on, but WJ had already agreed to DJ the gig and we worked up until the last possible sec on the new tracks. Best not to take separate trails at this juncture...

If we survive the ordeal, you'll be the first to know.

Freitag Nacht Lights and Licks...

Hello Friends,

Recoding (and recording) over the weekend in Berlin with Wouter Jaspers at his Neukölln bunker. Super-suppurated to be in the city again after only one week. Word on the strasse has it that I'll be receiving a copy of the video of the second-ever performance by Ohne (April 2002, Public Gallery, Paris) while I'm there.

(I suppose you might guess that I'm very excited by this prospect. And you'd be righter than Tancredo-cuckoo-batshit-level right.)

Hope to get snaps and info shards of the new KSV hatchlings uploaded before my train leaves in the morning, but if I don't, reconfigure previous notices for Tuesday. We have a profusion of sick produkt in the wings.

Last weekend of availability for KSV 106 Salon Oberdeck: 9. September (B*Tong) and KSV 110 Kevin Drumm & Tom Smith - Mud Keeps Lifting Me Higher. Since I'll likely be too wiped out to perform any label duties on Monday, we'll keep the door open until midnight Tuesday morning. Order now, or miss 'em. Your call.

Cheers,

Tom

Gregory Isaacs has left this vale of extraordinarily lovely woe...

Three Resurrected Drunkards: Weserburg Museum, Bremen...

Hello Again,

I think we've hit the wall. The last ten days have been genuinely manic for the CP and I - we've each promoted concerts (she, Hamburb's Kristof Schreuf, on the 18th at the Oberdeck, and yours truly, Bern natives RM74 and Herpes Ö Deluxe on the 19th at Sturmglocke), traveled to Berlin to attend the vernissage for Stefan Roigk's Crystal Castle exhibition at Ausland on the 20th, and then zoomed across Niedersachsen to perform last night at Bremen's Weserburg Museum of Modern Art with Pit Noack as Three Resurrected Drunkards. Not to mention working our usual day jobs, consuming the odd alcoholic beverage, staying out late in Berlin, even hitting the (re-)opening of the long-shuttered, now apparently resuscitated Space Age '79 disco in Hannover's Liste neighborhood throughout the morning of the 19th. My friends, we're wiped out. We're missing a party (sorry, Mo) and Michael Brun's Italo set at Hamburger Botschaft tomorrow night, and we're staying home on Saturday evening, most likely to drink wine while listening to country and schlager instead of taking in Sturmglocke's doubtless fun-slathered Freak Beat Party. Sometimes you just have to chill the fuck out.

After our train pulled into the Hannover Hauptbahnhof from Bremen early this morning I had to immediately board the S-Bahn to my first class of the day; while I was at work, Claudia read of Ari Up's passing, and when I arrived back home she conveyed the sad news to me. Such a bloody shame. I was a massive, massive Slits fan back in their heyday, and always had the greatest respect for their extraordinary art, reviled and ridiculed as it was in the mid-70s by noisome, clueless musos. Cut is beyond classic, and Ari was a fucking great singer.

(Nina Hagen's to Ari's right - our left - in this great photo from 1980...)

RIP, Ariana...

Re Three Resurrected Drunkards at Weserburg Museum: below, please find a clutch of photos. Stills are by me, and the framegrabs are taken from Claudia Franke's video. The flier was designed by the staff of the museum's REM (Reihe Elektronischer Musik) Konzert series...

Apologies from the Interior of the Pressure Vessel...

Why, why, why do I always attempt more than I'm capable of accomplishing in a twenty-four day? One of these millennia I'm going to schedule a block of sleep into the cycle...

Re KSV: check back tomorrow for expanded new release info. I had a Three Resurrected Drunkards rehearsal earlier, and then a Mad Men date with the CP. During the day, I worked, then completed the final mix of the fourth Academia Riding Rust album, Improvident Upskirt. Just no time left today to sort out the relevant details - I'm exhausted.

Forgive?

KSV 107 Eric Arn, Wouter Jaspers & Stefan Kushima - Templates
Leopoldstadt divides its time between metamorphosing hypnosis and the sweatered slamming of doors; a cloak that defines hours on end as a cabin replica...

Composed and performed live by Eric Arn, Wouter Jaspers and Stefan Kushima at the Oberdeck, Hannover, September 11, 2010.

01 Arn Jaspers (11:23)
02 Kushima (15:10)

05 Arn Jaspers Kushima (18:11)

Those who ordered (and were shipped) the first edition prior to Arn's retreating to his Vienna atelier will receive copies of the second edition at no cost. For everyone else, the second version will now supplant the first. OK? We'll send up a flare when the album is ready for re-release.

KSV 108 Academia Riding Rust - Improvident Upskirt

Two oranges on a shelf consisting of nothing more than miniature houses, a doghouse with two entrances. Sculptures range from bloated and French graphic to shouting and slamming of white sugar and black paper...

Their fourth album.

01 Improvident Upskirt (51:35)

Composed, mixed and produced by Academia Riding Rust.
Mastered by Linda, Voila & Uwe at Slab Alucard, Cluj-Napoca.

Three-week window of availability, starting today.

KSV 110 Kevin Drumm & Tom Smith - Mud Keeps Lifting Me Higher

Using Kevin's recent Obstacles double set as its thematic starting point, Mud posits the recent, still-unfolding Hungarian ecological catastrophe as a slowly gurgling metaphor for all the irrevocably fucked-up shit going on around us. (Yes, it's political.) Re-edited and remixed from KD's original Obstacles masters by Tom, who also added multiple layers of splintered vocals to re-frame the narrative.

01 Mud Keeps Lifting Me Higher (72:26)

Kevin Drumm - guitar, laptop, electronics, other devices, recordings
Tom Smith - voice, edit, mix, production

Mastered by Linda, Viola & Uwe at Slab Alucard, Cluj-Napoca.

Three-week window of availability. Two weeks remain.

KSV 111 Katja Fregatte - Metalized

Portraits of acclaim from the world's largest landfill, mixing Iranian and American imagery with imperceptible changes in hue. Taking cues from interiors either real or imagined, calculated subtlety gives way, stretching one minute into ten hours, tidying up disorder...

01 Metalized (66:11)

Composed, recorded, mixed, and produced August-September by Katja Fregatte at the Mathematics and Informatics Laboratory of the University of Plovdiv, Plovdiv, Bulgaria.

Mastered by Linda, Viola & Uwe at Slab Alucard, Cluj-Napoca.

Three-week window of availability, starting today.
