Hello Again,

This one's less than twenty-four hours old, and, the first Karl Schmidt Verlag release of 2011!

As ever, KSV is your fresh kill resource.

KSV 137 Tom Smith & Blue Sabbath Black Fiji - Silvester Konzert (2xCD)

More on this and the flotilla from the 31st in the next KSV-themed post. Pricing, shipping targets, availability window, etc.

Regarding the Best of 2011 list: still pondering. Anyone who opined that 2010 was a shit year for music really didn't know what the fuck they were yammering on about. Amazing sounds were falling from the skies at regular intervals. If you were looking down, however... I have front-runners in mind, but I want to review them again before issuing a fatwa.

Hope everyone had a great holiday. Mine was exceptionally fine, and I barely broke a sweat in the process...

TLASILA 2011 Hybrids #1

Happy New Year (Again)!

We begin (and will end) 2011 with 365 segments comprising a new series of exclusive hybrid mixes. These exercises tend to help me solve compositional problems and navigate the more perilous iterative straits bred by prolificacy. (And I hope they'll provide you with the odd nod and giggle as well...)

Below, at the red marker.

Happy New Year!

(Amended 1 Jan 11 and 2 Jan 11.)

Holy fuck, what a great gig last night in Bremen. The CP has the video, I captured the raw floor feed via the KSV H2, and the venue recorded a 16-channel board mix (without us having to ask; Vielen Dank Holger!). Even the hard-to-please Janin seemed elated, and the New Year's Eve crowd were going completely ape. Perfect...

(Yours truly, with a member of Die Friese's hardcore bartending crew in the background, Janin in the foreground, Charles' red kicks lingering below, and chief theorist Dr. Fulci to the left (our right), approximately 90 minutes away from detonation. (Janin and Charles, aka Blue Sabbath Black Fiji, minutes before the start of our set. Click above for a larger version of the image.)

The only slight downer: the (genuinely) great Major Murks was supposed to perform with us (we'd rehearsed as a quartet the entire week prior to the show) but, while he lugged his mammoth desktop monitors to the gig, he forgot to bring his Schneider 64k computers! Thus, he was unfortunately sidelined. (The haze was a bit too thick for memory to punch through. Next time, Olaf!)

(Major Murks, sans signature Cheech Wizard hat, on the morning of the 1st at Die Friese, the venue at which we performed. A side note: best vegan tour breakfast ever... Click above for a larger version of the image.)

More re the gig, KSV newness, upcoming gigs, and the TS/KD tour soon!
