Two Thumbs Jammed in Random Sprockets...

Things to admire: Birgit and Wilhelm Hein's two-part Materialfilme series from 1976. Tightly edited assemblages of random 35mm headers and footers recovered from the projection room floors of the cinemas in which they worked. Raw curtains of light drawn across swelling, heaving fissures...

The Calm Wag Coping with a Twang...

Norifumi Suzuki's 1973 daffodil inventory, Furyô anego den: Inoshika Ochô (aka Sex and Fury), will send you down any number of sewers with a Sardonicus-worthy grin on your kisser. Drink deeply.

Bankbook Ills...

Another crucial recording.

Kobosil's "-------" EP on Unterton fulfills all requirements.

It's a few months old now - a mid-September release - but I'm positive it doesn't mind...

You Haven't Given Her Anything, Have You, Billy?

(Cross-posted on FB.)

I love Microscopic Liquid Subway to Oblivion - an exceedingly odd Italian film from 1970 with an commendably random genre cast (Ewa Aulin from Candy, Eugene Pomeroy from The Garden of the Finzi-Continis [!], and Alex Rebar from The Incredible Melting Man), ridiculous narrative, and production values that are nearly impossible to discern, as every version I've ever seen comes from someone's low-res rip of a pan-and-scanned Greek VHS release. Which, naturally, only makes the movie better. Long overdue for a proper restoration, as there are only so many horny-professor-throws-acid-laced-heroin-party-with-each-bedroom-wired-for-sound films to go around...

KSV: Forbidden Bellies. Raw Face.

Hi Again,

Those of you who weren't able to tune in to our year-end telepathic frequencies will be given an opportunity to sift through the post-nova rubble, and soon. The trip Stateside inadvertently interrupted the majority of KSV activities - no Internet at all, save for the odd, mono-directional nod.

Keep your lids peeled as we backdate a path forward.

Finally Severed My Ties with Rapidshare: All Previous Uploads Gone

Hi All,

Rapidshare had become rather useless in the last year or so, but I continued refreshing the account in order to keep the older uploads active. When they instituted higher fees for ever-ropier services toward the end of 2013, however, I decided to wash my hands of them.

I'll need to restore everything. This may take some time. Make your requests known. Meanwhile, I would suggest patience. This forum isn't going anywhere. It has been quiescent of late, more a reflection of the brute constraints of time than disinterest, but that's to be expected. Life intrudes, gloriously.

Merkwürdig Riechen: Execution Economists Held Fuse on Distant Hula...

(Cross-posted from Facebook.)

Merkwürdig Riechen are back at it after a holiday layoff - last night we whipped two new numbers into a semblance of coherence, and suffered the usual torpor and self-doubt that follows a two-month hiatus. There were moments, however, where it all fell gloriously together, like broken supermodels tumbling, half-frozen, partly aflame, from a mid-air collision at 9,000 meters...

Alles Gute, Bocker!

Friends crowded into the flat of Merkwürdig Riechen member Andreas Brüning this evening to celebrate the hirsute one's 18th (or whatever it was) birthday. We were there too. Bocker (as Andreas is more commonly known) played great music throughout the evening (he's a fellow DJ), and the crowd of celebrants expanded as the level of soup in the kitchen tureen diminished. Not that one necessarily followed the other.

Happy birthday, mein Bruder!

(If you didn't already know, he's the fellow nearest the balcony window wearing glasses.)

Dieter Roth: Fetter Blitz und Faule Äpfel

Basically, fat flashes and rotten apples, which serves to explain Hannover native Dieter Roth's print-making work as well as anything. The Nord/LB Gallery is not the most welcoming space in the city, but any opportunity to view Herr R's work - in any context - is one not to be squandered. Through February 2nd - gotta go.

Someone Hangs Meat Over the Swelling...

Partied well into morning. Slept until early afternoon. Staggered through the litter-strewn streets. Across from the alleyway methadone clinic, a large, weathered poster...

Frohes Neues! Happy New Year!

WELCOME 2014!
