Always Better to Be First Among One's Multiples...

December 31, 2014: I took the first- and second-ever PiL bootlegs out for a stroll. For all the endless format/quality yammering over the 36 years since these albums were issued, it's no surprise that half-focused audience recordings have always instilled the most profound thrills. Nubes was particularly inspiring. During Keith Levene's lacerating solo in "Theme," you can hear a Rainbow Theatre audience member (presumably standing near the taper) wilt and crumble with an agonized "Aaaauugghhhhhh!" Sounds no one had ever before heard. I've since acquired (near) soundboard editions of their first ten gigs, but these, my friends, engendered mystery...
