Where Was the Love?

Hello...

Two months after the release of männercreme, aspiring South Florida music critic Todd Anthony pitched a feature story on the (largely non-existent) local noise scene to the grunge 'n' mellow Latin jazz-besotted editors of Miami New Times. The bait was swallowed, and Anthony followed through with an eight-page investigation on the crimes committed by TLASILA, Harry Pussy, King Felix, and Kreamy 'Lectric Santa, none of whom had much of anything in common save near-continuous, off-the-books recording at Rat's Sync Studios facility.

Jimmy Buffet fans hit lantern-festooned thatched roofs, and the hate mail engendered soon landed in print. Here's a scan of a typical screed from New Times' September 15, 1994 issue:

Anthony parlayed this and other articles into an eventual post as a film reviewer for the Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel. Rat? At the same address for nearly 20 years. INC '07 ruled. Kreamy? Still going, albeit in (hyper-creative) spurts. King? Semi-retired, but possesses the juice. HP? Dissolved in 1997. Legend accrual follows expected curve.

TLASILA?

Changed their name to Candlebox. The rest is herstory.
